I had some volunteer work this winter holiday in Phoenix International Bookstore. It was the largest bookstore I have ever seen. The whole building are made of glass, there’s a Starbucks Coffee next to it and gave people a modern feeling. It has five floors. There are millions of books in it. Of course, it includes vast kinds of books: literature, social-science, life, cartoon, laws, business and even CDs. This bookstore is very different from other common bookstores like Xinhua bookstore. Its feature is that there are some other stores next to the bookshelves and they all have some connections to the kinds of books in this floor. For example: on the third floor is full of CDs, so there is an instrument store next to it.
I worked in an electric dictionary and study machine counter. It’s really boring to stand there for five hours because there isn’t much customs looking around the dictionary. So I chatted with the other salesmen in the counter. They all sells a study machine called Noah study machine. In the counter next to it, it’s their business rival called Ozing studying machine. I used to be the user of this study machine. So I’m very familiar to the functions in it. That’s was a good news for the salesman. Because I said I used to be a student in Nanjing Foreign Language School by using this study machine. They were so exciting and use me as their spokesman. As they introduced the machine, they also introduce me to those parents of children. That was really interesting. After standing for two hours before the counter, my leg started to turn sour. Luckily, there is a piano and some guitars. As an expert on playing piano, I went to enjoy myself for a while. I suddenly found there are so many people around me. Old women and man, parents with their kids, are all enjoy it. I never thought this even gave the store some business. A lot of parents prepare for let their child learn some instrument. So they asked for the introductions of those instruments.
The temperature was really high in the giant bookstore. So I went down to the ground floor, get some pocket money from my mom and asked a cup of icy Starbucks coffee. After hard work, that’s really delicious, because it contains our sweat. From the volunteer work, I learn a lot about the management of a bookstore, different design uses different house and how should sale a good. There are a lot to learn in a bookstore. I enjoy it.
