critique the exhibition of Wuweishan's sculptures

The title of the sculpture is "Laozi". The famous artist Wuweishan made it in 2006. The artist used soil to make it. After it finished, he put copper into it and made the color bronze. When you stand near it, you may find that the face isn't meticulous. The eyes are even not the same size. The subject of the artwork is the empty body, I think. People can even stand inside his stomach because the emptied things inside. The artist wrote some words which are written by Laozi. It’s meaningful because it represents he is “满腹经纶”which means there’s a lot of knowledge inside his body.
This artwork gave me a shock. It isn’t like any other famous sculpture such as Michelangelo or Augeuste Rodin’s. Their sculptures are all exquisite. It seems white and smooth. But looking Wuweishan’s sculpture, although it’s not exquisite at all, even you can say it’s rough. But from the irregular lines on the sculpture face, we can feel the old age of Laozi, from the profound eyes, it reflected how many books Laozi read. It made me think about Chinese impressionistic pictures, such as Wudaozi. Many of the pictures only use a short time to complete it. The artist uses brush to show their feelings on the paper. It’s a kind of abstraction. The artist doesn’t want to show the appearance of Laozi from the sculpture, but want to show his knowledge by emotion and action.
I like this sculpture very much. It’s imaginative and attractive. Especially the empty body with Laozi’s famous sentences on it which shows the eruditeness of Laozi. It’s imaginative. But the face is more important. The lines on the face actively show the emotion of Laozi. Also, I think other people will like because this impressionistic sculpture will gave people boundless imagine space. Every people see it may have thousands of thoughts. That’s why it’s attractive, I think.
